News Worthy: 2/22 – 2/26

Hello from the little bubble I end up in when I visit home and get absolutely no homework done!

Interviews

This Emma Watson interview popped up on my Facebook feed last weekend, and who can resist an interview with her? As I read it, I realized that it is more of a conversation between Watson and author bell hooks, and the whole thing is definitely a unique approach to interviewing and connecting like-minded people.

Articles

I absolutely love this article from my internship site, New York Minute, about fathers empowering their daughters. My sisters and I grew up with our dad taking us on individual “Daddy-Daughter Dates,” normally for our birthdays but sometimes at random times too. I strongly believe a dad in a predominately female household has to know that it’s partially his job to make sure his daughters are tough, know their value, and don’t settle for anything or anyone less!

Film

Is it weird to have never seen any of a director’s work but still respect and admire the crap out of them? Ava DuVernay was confirmed to direct Disney’s adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, and this weirdly excites me. I failed to finish reading A Wrinkle in Time as both a child and recently as an adult, because I’m not a sci-fi person at all, but I think knowing that this is a film with a young female heroine led by a strong female director is what’s thrilling to me.

In other news about awesome females, Queen Latifah, Juliette Binoche, Catherine Hardwicke, and Jessica Chastain (who I met in my senior year of high school, and she’s such a class act) have joined the production company We Do It Together to create films and TV that promote female empowerment.

To sum things up, Fuller House launches today, so I hope to write a reaction post soon!
