So last night was the greatest time to be a star in the world of Hollywood as the film community celebrated the 87th Academy Awards. I went into the broadcast with moderately high expectations because of Neil Patrick Harris as host – have you seen his opening number at the 2013 Tony Awards? However, I knew that this ceremony was probably going to have many mentions about social issues, seeing as it was awarding the least diverse group of nominees since the late 1990s.

What I didn’t expect was for these moments calling for social justice to be some of my favorite occurrences of the night.
